APLD CT is offering members and non-members alike a unique opportunity for a behind-the scenes tour of Hollister House Gardens conducted by one of the garden’s original creator’s, George Schoellkopf.
Hollister House Gardens
Hollister House Garden is situated on a sloped, beautiful terraced site in the rolling hills of Litchfield County in northwestern Connecticut. Hollister House is an American interpretation of such classic English gardens as Sissinghurst, Great Dixter, and Hidcote, formal in structure yet informal and rather wild in its style of planting.
We will have a private tour with George Schoellkopf one of the originators of the garden and the hand that, over the last 31 years, has been shaping it into the jewel that it is today. Please join us for an afternoon walk, and meet fellow garden enthusiasts.
George has graciously offered to let us have lunch on the grounds after the private tour. Feel free to bring your own lunch or you can purchase a gourmet boxed lunch that will be delivered right to the gardens . (Note: All boxed lunches must be ordered by September 7th).
Date: Saturday, September 10th
Time: Tour begins at 11:45
Location: Hollister House Garden in Washington, CT
Cost: $12 for APLDCT members, $15 for non-members
Optional Box Lunch: $15 per person (feel free to brown-bag it, if you’d prefer)
Reserve your spot (and order lunch, too) for this one-of-a-kind tour today…
(Note: You do NOT need a PayPal account, once you click on a button look for the option to pay using a credit card.)

In our ongoing efforts to not only raise awareness of the value of professional landscape design among Connecticut homeowners but to also help promote APLD Connecticut members and their businesses, our chapter has partnered with Connecticut Gardener magazine to provide a column on plants and landscape design-related issues written by our members.
Much like a traditional roundtable, the column entitled, Designer Forum, will focus on one topic each edition and offer three different perspectives. Our inaugural column is featured in the July/August 2011 edition of Connecticut Gardener. Three of our members, Scott Hokunson of Blue Heron Landscape Design in Granby, Mary Ellen Pirozzoli of Verdesign in Ridgefield and Richard Rosiello of Rosiello Designs in New Milford offered their perspectives on their favorite native plants (see article below).
APLD Connecticut is looking forward to a long collaboration with Connecticut Gardener. The magazine is only available by subscription. Visit Connecticut Gardener’s website for information on starting your subscription today.
