In case you missed it, here’s the letter from Brid Craddock, APLDCT’s president that was e-mailed in mid-October to all current APLDCT members and also to APLD members residing in Connecticut.
The Board of your CT chapter of the APLD met on September 15th where we kicked off plans for chapter activities for the rest of the year. Hot topics included developing a lecture series, creating a website, attending trade shows, finding financial sponsors and inviting member participation.
We currently have 48 APLD members here in Connecticut, and almost half are current CT Chapter members. Renewal notices for 2010 membership in APLD International have been sent out to current members. Connecticut Chapter dues is an additional $35 ($20 for students). Go to www.APLD.ORG to renew.
We have a webpage! – www.apldct.org Visit to find complete contact information for the Board of the CT Chapter.

Opportunities to Volunteer
By-laws Committee: The Board recognizes that an integral part of establishing our Chapter is the creation and acceptance by our membership of official Chapter by-laws. While we have templates of by-laws used by other APLD chapters as a starting point, we would like to invite any current APLD CT Chapter member to be involved in the creation of our official Chapter by-laws. Work on this committee will begin in early November and should be finished by the end of 2009. Please contact Debbie Roberts (contact information listed below) to volunteer.
CT Flower Show: We have an opportunity to present a lecture to the attendees of the CT Flower Show, held in Hartford on February 18 – 21. We have reserved Sunday, Feb 21 at 2:00 pm for APLD CT Chapter’s lecture time. We are looking for a volunteer to present a lecture sponsored by the APLD CT Chapter. Additional volunteer members are needed to be available before and after the lecture to answer attendee questions. The lecture topic should be of interest to the home gardener, and represent the profession of Landscape Design.
The CT Flower Show draws attendees from all over Connecticut as well as MA, NJ, NY and RI. Over 35,000 homeowners typically attend the four-day event. For more information about the show and a (coming soon) list of seminars visit www.ctflowershow.com. To volunteer to lecture or if you can be available to attend the lecture on Sunday, February 21, please contact Brid Craddock (contact information below).
Events Committee: Our Chapter includes members from all areas of Connecticut. Our goal is to hold interesting and informative events throughout the state. Chapter members who are interested in finding guest speakers and looking for spaces/venues where we would be welcomed to hold meetings, offer lectures and participate in workshops can contact Whitney Freeman-Kemp to volunteer for this committee.
Website Committee: While we currently have a webpage, www.apldct.org, that allows us to display limited Chapter information, we realize our Chapter requires a full-fledged website in order to grow and also to provide our members with increased visibility within their communities. We are looking for Chapter members with experience or interest in creating websites to work together on building one for the chapter. If you’d like to offer your services, contact Jay Petrow. (Also see Website Sponsorship Drive below)
Promotion Committee: Chapter events need promotion and not just to our members. Flyers, emails and press releases for our upcoming events will be made available to all members. Can you do your part and distribute them? Help creating the promotion material would also be welcomed. To volunteer, contact any Board member for more information.
Chapter Sponsors : We are looking for green industry allied businesses to sponsor our efforts to create a website through a donation to our Chapter. In return we will list their business on our website as a sponsor. We are looking for members to recommend potential sponsors. Suggestions for potential sponsors have included nurseries, masonry suppliers, landscape lighting firms and fencing firms. We’d like to open this opportunity to potential sponsors throughout the state. If you know of a potential sponsor that you would like to contact, please contact Debbie Roberts for the forms and more information.
